I have heard with Sigma/Tamron/third party lenses the build quality varies with each individual lens they sell. One lens can be fantastic the next lens just not working right.

Personally I have the Canon 100mm macro on a 400D and I have had no problems with it. The 100mm has a longer working distance than the shorter lens (about 60mm I think).

In terms of macro greater than 1:1 the MP-E65mm is the best to go for canon-build wise. But very expensive and you may need a ring flash to go with it to make it useable.

I do not have a Canon, man I can tell you some of the Nikkor macros are fantastic. Its hard to tell ya what to get. I can tell you that without a shadow of a doubt I have been disappointing with sigma lenses on multiple occasions. one had unusually soft photographs and the other I tried the color was always the wrong temp, as if I took a daylight shot with florescent bulbs instead. I tested them back to back with my Nikkor lenses and it was night and day. Your best bet, try and try again against other brands, in store, they will let you, its a sale right. anyway great gallery :)

Lovely photo, rose pedal and a water drop right?
I have a sigma EX 105mm 2.8 macro lense but I dunno if it's really the greatest so my advice is just look at ones you think would be good and read the reviews on them... if you haven't already.

Correct! :D

I have heard that Sigma is one of the best and more affordable than the rest. Thanks for the advice!!

I wouldn't say one of the best, but it's probably one of the best for the price that I am willing to pay.

Also I don't know what it is like with the newer Canons (I have the 350D) but sometimes Sigma Lenses or lenses that aren't Canon aren't compatible 100% and you get an error while taking a picture sometimes. So that's another thing to look in to.
