She speaks to me fondly
of passions and talents,
of guitars and stars,
with such breathless intensity
then stops short and
apologises
for speaking at all.

All because somewhere in her life,
someone she loved broke her heart
by ignoring
her beautiful words
and telling her to
shut up,
keep it down,
nobody cares.

People aren’t born sad.
We make them that way.
You are all so beautiful and so gifted and so talented. Please don't listen to the world when they deride you and let you down. I pray that you all speak your minds and are welcomed and loved for it by someone you hold dear.

Many who are not so vocal about how they feel, who's scared of bothering anyone else can relate to this. (Hint: Me!) Beautiful. :)

this is so true about me. no one wanted to hear what i said, so there was a long time when i was really shy and didn't ever want to talk for fear of them ignoring me again. even today i still talk really fast so people don't think i'm wasting their time with "jibber jabber" and i can just get the conversation over with before they can interrupt or ignore me. kudos. never let yourself be silenced, don't stop writing and thank you! :]

This is a presentation of something simple yet so powerful. We live on this word. But not just us. Alongside there are more people that you could ever wish to know.
Why should we make this word a darker place than it already is? Share, love and be free. Do something good.
Our actions are just a drop of water in a sea. Even if it is so little, for the person that will taste from the place you put that small yet important drop of sweet water is enough to make a difference. And if we should all just try and help around one another in place of leaving nothing but darkness... I believe that from salty sea we can make a river of sweet water.  Step by step. Drop by Drop. A little by little the world can change. We can change. But we need to believe that we can, or we are lost.

As I read this I think of my own fears, and memories of things that have happened in my life. Of times when my parents have called me a disappointment to them, and other painful things I've heard and felt. And sometimes I feel like I forget who I am, because of so many people around me reminding me of everything I'm not. Or even around what I might not be, while wishing I was / could be. And then I have to remember how tragic and wrong it is to lose all sense of my own identity by having built a sense of self around that fear. Especially now having found the woman I'm going to marry, and having her as a daily reminder of who I am. And that being that one great partner, to her, is what really matters.

Thank you so much for writing this :caring: I needed it!

Anxiety happens that way. A lot of people who grow up into anxious adults were told to shut up by their parents and their teachers all the time and become over cautious. That's why you hear parents saying "We couldnt get him to shut up as a child" and you're like who... him? He's the most quiet person ever. That's also why alot of those people are very talkative once they become comfortable.

sorry for the longish comment

I don't get so much shut up as that glazed look people give when they don't care what you are talking about, but the feeling and reaction is the same.

It's sad, because that's completely true. We come into full bursting, full of hope , of youth and joy.

How long we can stay that way is another matter altogether...

Your poem rocks, and speaks the truth,
society teaches us from time of youth
that we're worthless unless we conform.
It's unacceptable to go outside the 'norm'.
What folks should remember as they get older
true beauty's NOT in the eye of the beholder.
True beauty exists within your heart,
it's why refusing normality is the best art.
Don't let em' dull your inner light,
for you're all bright stars in pitch black night.

I know that feeling all too well...most people just find my ever flowing ideas and talking annoying. And they don't hesitate to let me know it, even if it's not said out loud. The looks are enough.
