She asked him gently, “Do you love me?”
In his long silence, she found closure,
And left her love under a willow tree.
Sometimes, it is the simple questions that give us the answers that are most difficult to bear.

Let your burden go.

You deserve better.

I found better in K. But it took a lot of hurt before I could be happy with him again. I am blessed to have someone like K to have made it easy.

Plot twist: the willow tree was Groot and he left her for it.

I :+fav: ed this work twice. I mean... its so wonderfully written. I am unable to honestly put in words what I genuinely felt from this. I mean... the point you have portrayed in this poem, not to mention the way you've kept it subtle, but still really warm, works for the better of this work. It honestly does. the willow tree symbolism used in this poem, works really well in my opinion - as if you had been meditating for so long, that you finally found closure in yourself, the love being offered, and coming back full circle to what it genuinely means to find... some sort of satisfaction in knowing that the past is not going to come back unless you let it.

Wonderful work. Honestly.

This short poem holds priceless advice... Love it. And I'm very happy for you, it's only after you've found someone like that that you realise how life should actually be.

So true in thought. The way you describe the scene in such a short way that leaves the reader wondering and thinking is mesmerizing. Keep up the great work!

Of course he loves her. If a man is close to a woman is obvious he is there because he wants to be, but needy demands of affection are a turn off, so he thinks shes immature, and thats too much to handle so he keeps quiet.

Funny, my brother is currently cheating on his girlfriend but insisting to her that their relationship is fine and making her feel like a crazy person for suspecting. If you loved someone, a real man wouldnt call a brief moment of insecurity a turn off, you'd reassure them and get back to what's important. Perhaps you need to look at your own relationships and how you handle them.

She knows, she's the one who told me. She saw his texts to his ex but he's trying to convince her its for other reasons. She's not the brightest person but she doesn't deserve to be lied to to her face. But thanks for assuming?

I'm sorry, but your brother is cheating on his girlfriend and you don't tell her? Do you enjoy seeing her hurt or something?

She's the one who told me that she read texts to his ex but he's trying (and managing somehow) to convince her that they mean something else. Doesn't matter that I've told her that he's cheated on his past girlfriends or that she can do a lot better, he's very convincing. She may not be the brightest person ever but he's still an asshole for it. Also you can apologize for that shitball assumption anytime.

Having a false sense of entitlement makes it so people don't want to apologize to you. The point of an apology is that the person feels bad enough to WANT to apologize. But your arrogance and entitlement has negated any apology you might ever get from someone. Grow up.

A real man can answer a simple question. It's not immature to talk about your feelings or to wonder if your pain has meaning. The man doesn't love her and if a man can't be bothered to treat her with dignity and answer her question, there's no man to speak of in the relationship.

A regular man can have deep feelings and no need to publish them on a billboard or create a big drama circus out of it.

The question she asked only needed a one-word answer. :hmm: She didn't want or need a billboard or circus out of it.

If answering a question is a circus for you, then you must be very lonely or afraid to express yourself.

I was just interpreting the situation: maybe the guy was thinking "You know i love you, silly, im right here".

So, as any experienced man, hell do what husbands do, let her play in the garden while hes going to buy her chocolate :)

No one asked him to make a circus or publish them to a billboard. His woman asked if he loved her. He said nothing. So she realised he didn't.

Words left unsaid leave a deep gaping hole in your heart. That is why so many inspirational quotes are about seizing the moment, and telling people they love that they care for them.

I would rather hear someone tell me they love me after they fully contemplate our relationship and who we are as people than immediately stating a strong feeling that they have never questioned or thought about.

Sometimes answering important questions require thoughtful insight, not impulsive answers to quickly tell someone what they want to hear.

We all want to hear that we are loved because it makes us feel better and secure in our relationships, but we should always question love and think about all the mix of emotions that make up love. It isn't something that can be answered in .3 seconds.

If in two years you cannot tell your girlfriend that you love her. Thats messing her about a little, don't you think? Especially if you know that she loves you. Basically, the gist of this poem is, in two years of loving and being with a person, if they cannot say it back, it is time to close that chapter and move on.

Correct, but the poem neither states how long it has been or any other type of time frame. It just shows a question not being answered. "My cat hasn't moved from the couch. So I left him there." Without a time frame the cat could be taking a nap or the cat could be dead and the person refuses to move the body. On one hand you have a simple explanation, on the other hand you have a more psychological/emotional back story that needs to be addressed. The poem is up for interpretation as to whether the woman is being childish and wanting an answer immediately for a complex question. Or the woman *has* been waiting ages for an answer to this question which she has asked *repeatedly* for a long time and never gotten an answer. Without knowing a time frame many points of view can be taken from such a simple poem.

Oi, part of it got deleted, sorry about that:

"In regards to the title, Two years later from what exactly? The point in which the question was asked or the point leading up to the question? If you wanted this to be read a certain way and taken a certain way, then I am sorry. There is a lot of room for interpretation here that can go a dozen different ways. As has been shown in the comments section. "
